New Theatre Home
Green Building Design
The new Bellevue Youth Theatre facility will achieve green building objectives relating to energy efficiency, indoor environmental quality, water conservation and management, building materials and waste reduction, and sustainable site planning.
- Native landscape plants, and use of pervious pavement will enhance this low impact site development.
- Light “trumpets” will deliver natural light to office and working spaces while the theatre space will employ high efficiency lighting, all of which will reduce energy consumption and provide highly flexible technical lighting for productions.
- Geothermal heating and cooling, combined with a heat recapture system, will further reduce the energy footprint of the building.
- A system for ground water capture and reuse is being designed in to the site, avoiding possible downstream impacts on streams and lakes, and there will be water-conserving fixtures inside the building.
- Through utilization of renewable, recycled or natural building materials, and placing emphasis on locally available materials, the project will further limit excessive environmental and energy impacts.
- Specifications for non-toxic materials and low VOC (Volatile Organic Compounds) chemical emissions products will enhance the indoor air quality and contribute to a “healthier” building.
- The standards for interior finishes will also specify that components be capable of simple, non-toxic and low VOC emissions methods of cleaning.
The LEED certification application has already been submitted, and the project manager will be working closely with the architects and professional consultants to achieve a high level of certification.
