BYT's New Home

Our New Home

To meet growing demand and interest in our program, the Bellevue Youth Theatre is constructing a new home adjacent to the Crossroads Community Center. The new facility will mirror the inventive spirit of our organization, providing a theatre in the round experience within an innovatively designed building.

The outstanding design for the new structure has been created by Becker Architects, and will feature a building that is fully integrated into the landscape of Crossroads Park. This innovative structure is built in the hillside, minimizing the impact on the existing park by incorporating a green roof of earth and grass which flows over the top of the structure.

A flexible, high-tech theatre space with adequate dressing rooms, costume space and on-site storage, this new space will increase the theatre’s capacity to serve youth, access to diverse communities and capability to serve the disabled. The new building is designed to meet high LEED certification standards for sustainability. It will accomplish green building objectives relating to energy efficiency, indoor environmental quality, water conservation and management, building materials and waste reduction and sustainable site planning. An important aspect of the project plans is maintaining the existing facility to house the present BYT program during construction, and then to provide needed upgrades so that space can be used not only to support the program with additional rehearsal and technical space, but will also provide additional capacity for the incubation of other arts groups.

Construction plans for the new theatre are well underway.
